This sounds pretty cool, although I'm not sure if I follow the quickbrowser
part. What I know, though, is that it's really handy to have links to
frequently-used directories and devices on the kicker, but it doesn't work
very well. For example, the icons do not change depending on mount status
like they do on the desktop. Likewise, the trash icon stays the same when
emptied. Also, right-clicking on them doesn't bring up their regular context
menus like it does when they are on the desktop; the menu only manipulates
the kicker entity, not the device (or even the .desktop file).

I guess what I would like to see is a desktop/file manager-like extension to
the kicker, where the objects on it would be exactly the same as objects in
a directory window. They could be rearranged, renamed, etc., and would have
regular context menus which could be extended like konqueror ones can.

Either that, or allow part of the desktop to be a protected area, which
wouldn't be covered by maximized windows. Currently, it's possible for a
kicker to take up less than the full height/width of the screen, so the
desktop shows through, BUT no icons can be placed in that space, so it's
just decorative.

Putting device icons/links right on the desktop doesn't appeal to me, because
you have to be able to *get* to them before you can use them, and that is a
hassle. My desktop is almost always 80% or more obscured, often 100%, so it
doesn't make sense to minimize everything, click my icon, and unminimize
everything, when I could just have those icons on the kicker, which is
always visible (or if not, at least easy to get to).
