What version of Linux are you using? = there has been a bug in Athlon code in 
certain circumstances that causes this sort of lockup.  A temporary fix is to 
add "no pentium" as a boot parameter but AFAIK the latest versions of 2.4 
(19-pre?) has this problem fixed
