No. That's not so easy. It normally takes user interaction to find out
if everthing is OK.

Possibly one could write a separate "Test Soundcard" program.
The thing could play sounds and ask the user stuff like
"Did you hear one or more beeps?".
Other tests can be made automatically (w/o) user interaction, e.g.
test what the driver claims to support.
