Then I don't understand why we want to use point sizes. Why do you want fonts
to remain at a fixed physical size regardless of the screen resolution, while
*everything else* (widgets, icons...) varies ?

When I use a display with a higher resolution, I expect everything to get
smaller, and to take less physical screen space. What would be the point
otherwise ?

Currently, if I let konqueror choose fonts by their point sizes, in
filemanager mode the icon titles are bigger than the icons themselves. The
numbers in kicker's desktop chooser are bigger than the square they are
displayed in.

Point sizes are useful for printing when you want a document to look the same
regardless of the printer's resolution. But you really don't want that on a
screen.
