my idea: hide the panel just like the windows one. scrolling it that way off
the screen is much faster and more logical for the user. it also takes much
longer to access the hidden panel as you have to click (no auto-unhide) and
then wait a pretty long time (imagine that unnecessary animation over a
network connection. That looks ugly!). 

I don't see an advantage in current scrolling method. is there any?
