Here comes a whole new word-wrap algorithm for KDE, particularly tailored to iconviews.

(Trolltech doesn't want to honour our request, so let's have our own algorithm ;)
Per request from Thomas Diehl.
The wordwrapping is handled by a separate class (KWordWrap) so that it can be
used for other things than icons. Dirk, it even has a method that returns the
text with '\n' inserted, as you wanted for tooltips ;)
The current feature is wrapping at punctuation signs, symbols, etc.
Preventing the last char from being alone on its line is still TODO.
