Absolutely correct. I'll make sure that this will be the case.

I disagree partly. konqueror doesn't tell you that it needs qt or
kdelibs, does it? It's just a dependency, albeit a soft one (i.e. not
compile-time). Applications shouldn't have installation manuals for all
the software they depend on. The packager should resolve those issues
for the end user.
I.e. Debian perfectly installs the gift-package when you install
"kmrml".

Again, I disagree partly. The gift will be started on demand, i.e. only
when you first invoke an image search. But maybe it would be possible to
check for a gift-installation in the user's PATH. If none is found, then
the menu-entry could be hidden.
But again, this wouldn't be an issue if the packages would have been
properly prepared.
