That's right, and KDE 3 apps have misused the view_close icon in quite a few 
ways. I would also like to see an 'x' in the view-close icon, even though I 
remember that someone once said it'll be better without that.
Don't know the reasoning anymore, or even who said that.

I think the icon would look better with the 'x' from edit-delete/tab-close/...
- the "simple" 'x' that you used is basically deprecated and onle used in two 
rather invisible places where it has not been replaced yet.

For which use case? Which app is going to use this icon and how?
Also, the name "view" is not an option, for the same reasons that I also 
detailed in the dreadful "page-zoom" thread.
