| I can recommend ksvg.

Unfortunately, I can't - at least in its current state.

| What we are using for KDE to render SVG-icons is ksvg / ksvg2png.
| All those SVGs which have been checked into kdelibs have been rendered
|
| fine and they are rather complex. Although ksvg did have some problems
| with
| gradients until mid-september those problems have vanished since then.
|

What about *simple* example which I attached to my previous message (subject:
KSVG vs. RSVG)? (undo-v2.2.svg)
I am not speaking about more complex examples, like files exported from
CorelDRAW 10.

| If you still should experience problems with certain SVG-files please
| send
| them to wildfox@kde.org or to rwlbuis. They will sell their grandmother
|

Unfortunately, wildfox doesn't reply to mails, and Rob is working on Karbon14.
So, it seems to me that KSVG is not maintained at a amoment. And this is
biggest concern from my side.

| to get them working ;-) And of course you should try to use the most
| recent version of HEAD for that purpose.

Should someone make tar.bz2, or SRPM package from KSVG?
I am not position to use KDE CVS, just to het KSVG up an drunning.
librsvg2 is just 150K tarball, which you can compile in less thna 1 minute.
I am looking forward to see something similiar on KSVG side. Than compare
quality/rendering speed.

|
| I would prefer to stay away from Adobe Illustrator, too. But right now
| it's
| the only tool which one can use to create good-looking complex icons.
| That's why Everaldo and me used ADobe Illustrator 9 sofar for creating
| the SVGs of Crystal. However this will change soon:

BTW: i downloaded from kde-look.org Crystal 0.71, and it seems there are no
SVG files inside tarball. Where I can get *SVG versions* of Crystal icons?

|
| From KDE 3.1 on I will try to use Karbon14 which already seems to be
| very near to being usable for that purpose. That's why I talked to
| lenny and we agreed
| that it would really make much sense to focus on getting karbon14 ready
| for icons.

Fully agree with you!

|
| For a screenshot of karbon14 and one of the dozens of crystal icons
| that I
| created see:

|

I recognize kwrite.svg :-) Looks nice!
It's a pity that SVG import doesn't work in Karbon14 from KOffice 1.2.

| The directory contains various interesting screenshots.
| For another look at the new texttool have a look here:

|
| Yes and that's why you want to use ksvg - or do you use Mozilla these
| days, too ;-)?

No, I use Konq fro browsing, and librsvg2 for rendering.
I have small application called 'svgdisplay' which does two things:
a) shows SVG on screen
b) converts it to PNG
It's a tweaked (by me) version of text-rsvg from librsvg-2.1.0

I also highly apprecitae the fact that Dom (librsvg2 maintainer) can fix
reported bug in a day or two. Well, he hasn't managed to fix *all* bugs I
reported to him, but he works really hard!

|
| BTW: I am working from home now and got my new flat.

Congratulations!
Do you have plan of your new flat in SVG format? :-)
Together with Window-view? ;-))
