Sorry to post late, but people aren't pointing out what most of us probably
already know, but some people (like those who even suggested revising kimp)
don't...

And we neglect to say why they can forbid the port... as under the GPL they
cannot generally forbid re-use, they can forbid it if the license the
derivative work is released under is non-GPL-compatible, or links to
software/library that is non-GPL-compatible.

KDE uses the Qt toolkit, which is non-free (according to RMS & the FSF) &
therefore non-GPL-compatible. So KDE/Qt re-use *might* not be allowed under
the GPL unless the author (copyright holder) allows it.

However, the denial of recognition of Qt as free is contentious, and it is a
whole big can of worms... so go figure.

Debian are the best people to ask, they are mostly FSF/RMS fanatic and think
that KDE is evil (or thereabouts) so they give the full legal argument with
lots of spittle and venom...
