  RE: Freezes..  Possibly you could run a program like top, I think that there
is even one for KDE.  Usually when I see pauses in the responsiveness of a 
desktop, it's because of some process monopolizing some resources.  It may
be the X server, but it may not be.  So, you should probably try to track down
which process it is that is running at the times that you notice the slowdown.
