Gosh,

I nearly replied to this guy, but then I read the next 110 messages and decided
against it. What a loser.

I make my living support MS operating systems (sign of cross, holy water)...
and there is no way you can properly support even a MS OS without a command
line interface. Try repairing a corrupt MS Exchange message database on Windows
NT without going to a CLI (but that is TOTALLY off-topic). And don't get me
going about the registry.

At home however I have switched completely to KDE and Linux on my main PC. I
run the odd windows app under WINE, and I have managed 20 sessions of Netscape
under 3 X-Windows sessions without a lock-up. I can format a floppy, watch TV,
compile a program and download my mail all at the same time without my PC
breaking a sweat. Try that under windows.

And the learning curve with linux is not that much steeper than with Windows.
Give an average man in the street a blank hard disk, and a Windows boot disk &
CD and see how far he gets. Trust me I have to hand-hold people through this
every day of the week. I think even my Gran could install Caldera 2.2 on her
own.

BTW: did I read it right? Is this guy seriously going to install a "Mission
Critical" server in some poor sod's office? I can't knock his choice of
Solaris, other than it's a touch pricey, but I mean he can't even install Linux
- how is he going to administer Solaris?

Hmmm. end of personal rant. Doug - sorry to have a laugh at your expense, but I
deal with people like you every day and I'm paid to be nice to them. I have to
take it out on somebody, and sorry but you asked for it.
