I would prefer to run Aterm to Eterm but I'm currently running Eterm (and
living with Esetroot). The reason I'm not using Aterm is because when I
installed Aterm on KDE 1.1, it installed normally but every time I launched
it, I got this weird sliver of a window along the left side of the root X
window and I couldn't resize or maximize it. I have had this exact problem
on two separate Redhat 5.2 Linux/KDE 1.1 machines.

What app-defaults did I overlook?

You're right -- Aterm pseudo-transparency does seem to work out, although
I had problems with KDE's app-defaults screwing Aterm up "out of the box".

On the other hand, I wasn't able to get shading of the pseudo-transparent
background to work properly, and there doesn't seem to be anything
analogous to Eterm's -W flag to handle the case where a term window is
moved to a different virtual desktop.

But certainly for someone who's interested in a pseudo-transparent
terminal window, and who isn't interested in applying patches and
recompling programs, Aterm is worth a look.
