Oh yeah... My usual rant goes here. ;-) My system is entirely built from
source so I have every include file (headers broken off into devel packages)
installed for all installed software. This is how much of that new terrabyte
drive they are saving space on.
system - 112 MB
Qt3 - 2.7 MB
KDE - 9.5 MB
My total /usr space used - 8.6 GB
Space taken up by header files - 1.4%
Here's my rant... The only reason to do extra work breaking out header files
with binary packages (to save 1% space) is that most novice users will give
up compiling programs when the first attempt fails. This practice was started
by Red Hat back in the days when distributions saw selling boxed sets and
service contracts as their revenue source. Breaking the ability to compile
anything but a kernel is a rude way to treat novice users and will only stop
when enough people complain. Note that somebody decided to make sure the
kernel could be compiled.

It's either going to indicate some tool is missing or give some really weird
message. Since it's expected people may recompile their kernel distros don't
install without the basic tool chain... AFAIK.

In theory you should be able to use wildcards at the command line for all
kernel headers (probably already there)
xorg
qt
kdelibs
Installing these "devel" packages should do it. Don't install the default
developer install for your distro unless you want another 350 MB of random
tools even I use very few of as a developer.
