I guess ftp may not be the best choice, but it should still work. I can do all
my ftp operations from konqueror so I'm pretty sure all is cool with the
setup, and the KIO can operate with it. Like I said Quanata seems to be able
to read and write it just goes to 90% CPU usage when adding files to it's
prject... I now solved the problem by setting up sftp.

This leads me onto another question. In my sshdconfig I allow on the user
"avl" to connect via SSH. If I try to login using another account it fails as
it should and the same is for a sftp login. However if I use fish:// in
konqueror it allows me to login using any user I like. How can I plug this
security leak (so people on the WWW cannot fish on to my machine possibly
cracking one of my more insecure accounts)?
