The main problem with this is that I can imagine it being much more work
to implement. But if it can be done (and doesn't e.g. get confused by
HL's with spaces in their names; seems like I've had issues with these
before), then I think I'd be okay with it.

Yes, I would be disappointed if globs aren't an option. I've had cases
where I have essentially a project-specific file type; I'd rather not
define global file types to deal with these.
