Subject: [kde-redhat-users] Bug: inconsistent KDE control center menu item
Message: 1

I have two systems running KDE 3.5 (though I've seen this issue with KDE
3.4 too). One system shows the KDE control center in the "K" menu as a
selectable application (click on it and the control center starts).

The other system shows the KDE control center in the "K" menu as a menu
heading, with the control center modules as sub-headings. There's no menu
item to start the control center in a separate window.

Both systems are running the latest kde-redhat via YUM (identical package
versions). The issue is reproducible by starting with empty
.kde directories on each system.

What's the default behavior here, and which of the two systems is broken?

Carl

	KDE 3.5

This used to work in KDE 3.4.

On my system, I have a desktop autostart item for my KDE login that runs
'ssh-add' to prompt for my SSH passphrase at first login.

In KDE 3.4, this worked fine -- when I initially logged in, it would ask
for my SSH passphrase, and cache it with ssh-agent.

With KDE 3.5, this no longer works. The 'gnome-ssh-askpass' process gets
stuck. It never opens a dialog box, and it doesn't exit. Since KDE
serializes entries in the Autostart directory, this means that the
Autostart scripts are all now stuck, waiting for gnome-ssh-askpass to
finish.

When I log out from the session, I do see the askpass window briefly appear
as it's tearing down the other session windows.

Carl

I have been using exactly the same thing with KDE 3.5.4 for a long time and it
workes just fine for me. Recently I updated to 3.5.5 and it seems to still
work perfectly.

Maybe something got borked in your kde settings when you updated from 3.4 to
3.5 ?

cheers Chris

I still see it running every time on startup ... I've worked around by
removing xdg_config_dirs-hack.desktop from /usr/share/autostart and
adding the definition of XDG_CONFIG_DIRS_OLD to my .profile.

  miles@frege:~$ rpm -q kde-config-kdebase
  kde-config-kdebase-3.5-12.fc5

Subject: [kde-redhat-users] FC5 to FC6 upgrade
Message: 6

Hi,

I upgraded my FC5 with kde-redhat to FC6 yesterday. I also pulled the src rpms
for beryl from RH bugzilla, (which are currently being reviewed and at some
point will make it into extras), built and installed them. I have a very cool
kde 3.5.5 desktop using the nvidia (9626) driver with twinview, kde-redhat
and beryl as the window manager. Not using AIGLX or Xgl servers, just the
direct support of GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap from the nvidia driver. beryl
works well with twinview (Xinerama), last time I tried compiz, it didn't.

Anyway, whilst building the beryl packages I noticed a couple of things
related to avahi and mDNSResponder.

Rex, you probably are already aware, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

kde-redhat is shipping mDNSResponder. In FC6 RH has avahi-compat-libdns_sd to
provide libdns_sd.so.1.

kde-redhat is shipping kdelibs-libkdnssd. The RH package to
provide /usr/lib/libkdnssd.so.1 is kdnssd-avahi.

Regards

Clive
