Subject: [kde-redhat-users] kde3.5.5 > FC6
Message: 1

Hi all,

(I have been in discussion with Rex, and he suggested I post this here, so he
is a summary)

FC4 Upgrade to FC 6 pre, updated to Final..

###
I have been testing 3.5.5 with the FC6 pre-release (updated to FC6 release
now) and there seems to be a few issues here after I updated to kde 3.5.5, I
wonder if anyone else has seen these.

The Control Center is not in Kmenu, so I tried to Edit Kmenu to add it (right
click on the Kmenu Icon) and this does nothing.
Control Centers runs OK from the shell.

The Edutainment entry is empty in Kmenu, IE Science, Maths etc.. many other
menus also missing in Kmenu.
I have done all the usual things to rebuild the menus, created a new user but
no luck..

Configuring the Panel, Right Click taskbar > Configure Panel
There used to be four options/Tabs on the left where you could adjust
quite a few options, Display, Hiding, Menus, Appearance, Taskbar, Now I have
just one option (Taskbar)
Screenshot of the "configure panel" with missing menus here:
http://www.g6avk.demon.co.uk/snapshot9.png

Desktop > Panels is blank in the control Center,

Settings Peripherals > Display
Here there is only one Tab (Size) , there used three tabs so you could adjust
the Size, Gamma and Power etc.

Update...
I downgraded (for the time being) to kde-redhat-3.5.4 from Stable and the
problem remained. So I then downgraded to the earlier earlier QT >
qt-3.3.6-13.1.fc6.kde and all is OK now, missing menus, config options all
appear again..
Which leads me the think it could be a QT problem??
###

I would be very interested to know if anyone else is seeing this with
3.5.5/FC6 fresh install or FC4 > FC6 ?

Cheers,

Colin

The funny thing is that you are describing problems that I had a some stage
during FC5. :-)

I have updated from FC5 to FC6 and everything works, I don't have any of the
problems you are describing. Strange, really strange. :-(

Indeed.. I just can't work out what the problem is, but I am leaning towards
QT somewhere along the line..

Message: 4

Hiyall

I'm planning my upgrade from fc5 i386 to x86_64 and I have a couple of
questions. First of course has anyone done anything similar? Second, any
pitfalls along the way?

Third, I've noticed that fc6 x86_64 is not as package complete as fc6 i386, or
for that matter, fc5 x86_64. Can I assume that this will change in the not to
distant future?

Thanks in advanced for your advise.

Eli

I'm doing a few different upgrade runs as we speak from FC4 > FC6 ..... The
first one I did a "yum remove kde* qt* Imagema*" prior to get rid of all the
kde-redhat related packages plus more for the upgrade. Now I'm doing a
full-up upgrade with kde-redhat, freshrpms, rpmforge repos still active. I'll
post back the results but might not be 'til early next week if I get slammed
today.

I did notice that there were about ~60 - 70 fc4 packages left on the machine
after my first upgrade to FC6 .... I'm going to try and clean all the fc4
remains before doing all the users desktop systems.

If you tell us what's missing, we'll happily (re)build things.

Ok .... this time I did the full-up FC4 -> FC6 without any prior package
removal. There are now 51 package with fc4 still on the system via "rpm -qa |
grep fc4" ... "yum check-update" now shows 105 packages slated for updates.

Going to to a yum -y update and let-er-rip..... will report back.

With the lastest stable kde-redhat packages ... all the menus and properties
for the taskbar look ok ... I'm going to have to sync my home directory over
and try to *use* it.

I just uninstalled and re-installed nas via yum on my el4 x86_64 box, and it
was fine. ??? Or were you using apt? Regardless, I just forced
regeneration of both apt/repodata metatdata.
