I've got a 19" Viewsonic and 1024x768 is the highest I can deal with. Larger
resolutions lack fonts that are easy to read without getting crunchy looking.
Does anyone have suggestions? Helvetica looks terrible at > 12 pts. So does
Arial, and just about any other Sans Serif font I've downloaded.
12 point fonts at 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor give me a headache in 10 minutes
flat. It's not the monitor's fault either; it's a Viewsonic E790B which has
exceptionally good clarity. Perhaps a 21" at 1600x1200 would look nice with a
good 16 point font. Again, any suggestions? I'd like the extra pixel estate,
but I don't fancy migraines.
I have two kicker panels running at all times. The bottom kicker is Normal
because it contains my task bar and I need two rows for my open tasks. The
task bar hogs 90% of the bottom panel, the rest goes to a kmix master volume
slider, my system tray and the clock. A Tiny panel with a task bar is only
one row of tasks and I can't handle that (all I see are the little icons).
The secnod kicker panel is set to Tiny and is just above the other panel, and
contains a horizontal list of icons. Left to right are: KDE Menu, Konqueror,
Desktop Access, Home Directory, Kwrite, Kmail, KOrganizer, Gimp, IglooFTP,
KAB, Netscape and Konsole. Also on this panel is a Quick Access to my music
directory, so I can play one song if I feel so inclined.
I tried the news ticker in this panel, but it was too distracting. Otherwise,
it was pretty damn cool.
Sean.
