crap. i'm sorry.. for some bizarre reason my new menu option works now. 
But the contents are full of stuff I didn't put there: I think this was 
done when I changed the icon using the kde tools. hmmm.

am using the /usr/share/applnk

/usr/share/applications didn't work yet. maybe i'll play with that monday.
