The way it works everywhere else. Somebody brings up an issue, others
are bringing in their opinions about it and then there is a result or a
comprimise (an agreement) which is announced and then the "community"
is willing to accept this.

That's why we use email and mailinglists. Without communication
the thing is just about to fail.

Hey, I'm not talking about voting. voting is silly in a medium like
internet. Always.

I've missed that thread. Where can I read it?

There were some very good arguments pro 1.2:

- it's easier for PR, easier to remember and to tell novice. (From my
personal experience, most
not-so-nerded-slashdot-readers-but-still-using-linux users don't know
that there is a difference between KDE 1.1 and KDE 1.1.1)
(it was funny to hear the crack-jaw "KDE 1.1.1" everywhere on LinuxTag
here)

- the great work of the artists team alone satisfies a v1.2. I know
that there are not much changes to the code base. But why are we
measuring the version number in the LOC changed? I believe that this
was an enormous amount of work to do, and it was NO BUGFIX ONLY thing.

- Theme support and all the other stuff that has been improved not
because of a bug are now "hiding" in something that looks like another
bugfix release. Are we sure that KDE 1.1.2 is really more stable than
KDE 1.1.1 ? It hasn't been tested widely. afaik there even were no
pre-tarballs of it.

- KDE 1.1.2 really looks like a bugfix release for KDE 1.1.1. This is
really _bad_ PR for us as coders (looks like we're too stupid for even
doing bugfixes right). I know that KDE v1.2 would be compared to the
GNOME 1.2 vapourware, but we would win that comparison for sure.

- too much time has passed since KDE 1.1.1 to make KDE 1.1.2 look like
another bugfix release for KDE 1.1.

No. Now it has happened, it's too late to wine about the decision. I
know this. I'm just bitching, but not trying to start another flamewar.

> Thanks for respecting the decision of the release dude.

I always thought Matthias Hoelzer is the release dude, because there
was quite some release confusion the time when KDE 1.1.1 was about to
release. But maybe I've also missed that thread where this has changed.
