did you make install before starting kmail (if that's what you tested with)?
There's a little test program in kfile, you can compile it with "make kfstest"
and run with e.g. 

./kfstest heap

E.g. clicking on the heading without selecting a file before? That's exactly
the crash that I fixed with the last patch. And I can't reproduce any crash 
anymore. Do you get the exact same backtrace as before?

Which Qt-version do you use?

Those who don't have a header (e.g. in the simple view).

You probably get a crash when you sort by clicking on the header and no
file is selected in the view. That's what I fixed with the last patch.

Well, you get the preview (if available) and the icon view. Some might prefer
the detailed view instead or the directories separated view. To each his own,
I think :)
