Package: kicker
Version: 0.1 (KDE 1.90 Beta >= 20000517)
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Reading an article from Bruce "Tog" Tognazzini on Mac OS X, I realized KDE 1
has a feature KDE 2 hasn't:

"Fitts's Law, by way of review, dictates that the larger the target, the faster
the acquisition, distance being equal. As discussed in my column, "A Quiz
Designed to Give You Fitts," the four corners of the display have the "magical"
property of being infinitely deep, since the mouse pointer is locked into them
no matter how fast it is "thrown." In addition, the four sides of the screen
are infinitely deep. That is why, for example, Mac's menu bar is so much faster
than Windows' and why the Windows Task Bar, which is anchored to the screen
edge, is so popular."

In KDE 1 it is possible, if no magic borders, to throw the mouse to the edge,
and select an application fast from the taskbar. In KDE 2 this is not possible
any more: there is a border around the button, one has to move a bit back from
the edge. Which is indeed much less fast and handy.

In the same line, the K button, holding the menu with all the apps, might be
best in the corner fully, thus making the throwing with the mouse possible.
It would make choosing apps faster. You see, the article really did inspire me:-)
Both the handles to move kicker to the side could be on the right side.

Also, I like to navigate through the virtual desk tops by using the taskbar -
just selecting the application, which so becomes the active one, I can
start typing right away. With only the applications in the taskbar that are on
the current virtual desktop this is no longer possible.

Best regards,

Ante
