Subject: Bug#2213: kmail improperly handles messages with only an attachment and no body
From:       Steve Grant <sgrant () juniper ! net>
Date:       1999-10-28 21:12:41
[Download RAW message or body]

Package: kmail
Version: 1.0.28

OS: RedHat Linux 5.2 with 2.0.36 kernel, 5.2 libs, and KDE 1.1.2

When someone sends an email message that contains no body but does have an
attachment, the attachment apparently becomes the message body and looks like:

ÐÏ à¡± á

Here is the header info and the 1st line of the base64 encoded attachment from
one of these messages:

From: Blythe Bruntz <blythe@juniper.net>
To: Steve Grant <sgrant@juniper.net>
Subject: Tuition Reimbursement
Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 13:41:33 -0700
MIME-Version: 1.0
X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21)
Content-Type: application/msword;
    name="Tuition Policy.doc"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment;
    filename="Tuition Policy.doc"
Status: R
X-Status: N

0M8R4KGxGuEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPgADAP7/CQAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABAAAANgAAAAAAAAAA

If the message has something in the body, the attachment works like it is
siupposed to work. I just upgraded to kde 1.1.2. This bug has been there ever
since I started using kmail early this year.
