To add to the confusion. I'm on a Fedora 22 x86_64 system. I think I had a
duplicate bug to this one, certainly the behavior sounds VERY similar. Shortly
after my report, the problem seems to have gone away and I have not seen it
since then.

I DO see similar problems though. It's like an update comes along and you
install it but the "bad" or "incorrect" config entries live on and on. For a
while I was seeing several other apps appearing on startup even though I had
ONLY  xosview and 3 konsoles active AND "task bar autohide" could NOT be turned
off (argh). The extras were from some sound(?) app control panel and several
instances of xosview. I installed and configured a Fedora 23 system with it's
KDE config... all worked well. I saved my old config and merged the Fedora 23
KDE configs from .kde and .gtk'*'  to my Fedora 22 configs... Most of the
problems went away.

I still have the old KDE configs in case anyone is interested.
