Interesting, the problem still exists for me. I'm on Kubuntu 11.10, using the
"Kubuntu Updates" PPA with its latest KDE version 4.7.3.

The (AFAIK) relevant packages are all at version 4.7.3-0ubuntu0.1~ppa1, such as
kde-workspace, libplasma*, plasma-dataengines-workspace,
plasma-widgets-workspace, and others.

An easy way to reproduce is using Thunderbird (and possibly Firefox) with the
FireTray extension: have the TB window open in one virtual desktop, then click
the TB systray icon twice while in another virtual desktop (first for
minimizing the TB window, then for opening it again, this time in the current
vdesktop). Go back to the first vdesktop and find a gap.
