The filenaming convension is all well and good, but the problem comes when someone \
renames the file outside of Digigam and doesn't update all the .version versions.

I guess Digikam would have to track the MD5 sum or something of the photographic \
content (e.g. ignore the metadata as this could have been altered externally too) and \
cross reference it's "missing file" in the database to the "new file" it's found. It \
could then take care of the necessary renames.

This would also prevent the loss of image properties in digikam that are only stored  \
in the database, not in the files themselves.

Such a feature would be similar to Amarok's AFT (Amarok File Tracking) - it's changed \
acronyms a few times so I may not have the most recent - it takes an MD5 of the first \
x bytes of real data (ignores metadata) to uniquely identify a file.
