What happens, if I move a photo to another album?

Although I agree that every version of a photo has to be accessible to other
applications, i.e. not just the differences saved to svn or similar, I would
like to point out that the basic backup would double the amount of data need
for the photos. Laptop users might not be able to just put in a second
harddrive.

Since digikam cannot handle several directories, those users would have to put
all their photos on a separate USB-drive which leaves them with no pictures
on the laptop.

From that perspective I think that digikam has to be able to manage the
collection of photos as amarok does with music, i.e. have several dirs they
can be stored in. If that was the case the backup-folder could be held
seperate, if needed, e.g. on a USB-drive. That way the laptop user can have
old pictures as well as backups on the USB-drive but still have the more
recent photos on the laptop itself.
