In related news:

I managed to get Kopete 0.6.2 running on Windows. Before you all get too
excited: it still runs in Cygwin, inside a big X11 window :-p With aid from
the KDE-Cygwin guys (http://kde-cygwin.sf.net) I got it compiling with use of
their KDE 3.1.1 Beta1 packages. I discovered a few bugs in their packages and
they helped me out with the build system (building, linking dll's and
such...)

Once the build system was set up, it was quite easy to compile Kopete. Only
minor changes in our code were needed.

Problems I experienced:
* MSN didn't build due to a bug in the KDE 3.1.1 Beta1 packages.
(include/kgenericfactory.tcc was not present). This will be fixed in an
update package.
* ICQ had trouble with "__timezone" in libicq/various.cpp (like Solaris does)
Because the code isn't critical to ICQ, it was easy to circumvent. Real fix
could be renaming it to "timezone" or "_timezone". I'm not sure yet...
* Jabber could not compile due to problems with linking to SSL libraries. It
could be caused by the Cygwin environment itself, shipping an older version
compiled with an older gcc. Still needs further investigation.
* everything else went smooth :-)

Everything was stable, there were no serious problems. (Well... equal stable
to 0.6.2 ;-))

I am *NOT* planning a Windows native version of Kopete. Simply because I can't
and because there is still no solid Windows Qt/KDE foundation to build upon.
There is a GPL'ed native win32-Qt2 port underway (started from Qt2 X11
sources) but it's far from done, and it is still an old Qt2 version...
(http://kde-cygwin.sourceforge.net/qt2-win32/) When win32-Qt3 is finished and
KDE runs without Cygwin, I might consider a native Kopete port.
