Summary: "Line Up Icons" = excessive spacing
Product: kdesktop
Version: unspecified
Platform: SuSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: faure@kde.org
ReportedBy: nawalsh@ucsd.edu
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.0.4)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: RPMs built by SuSE, not me
OS: Linux
i wasn't sure how to classify this: it's halfway between a wishlist and a bug (that \
is, it's a feature that works, but not the way it used to, or how i want it to.)
with the new version (3.0.4, downloaded from SuSE's ftp mirrors on 30 Oct 2002) the \
kdesktop program implements a new feature that your site says has"better \
determination of icon heights, for "lineup Icons.""
but i think the new implementation is actually worse: when i click "L-U-I" in the \
rightclick menu, the icons get spaced very far apart. this is fine, if i have a high \
resolution, and larger icons- but i'm at 1024x840 or so, with 32pt. icons. with \
3.0.3, the icons would line up right next to each other vertically, saving space. \
now, there's enough room in between icons vertically to place about a 24pt. icon, and \
enough between them horizonally to place a 48pt. icon.
there have been a number of wishlist requests (see #8598, which requested a fix back \
in v. 1.9.2 or so, and 35469) for an option to SET the icon spacing oneself.
PLEASE: the new implementation for icon spacing wastes a TON of real estate. can we \
revert back to the old spacer, or (much better yet!) be able to change this \
ourselves?
i like almost everything else in 3.0.4, and i'm even more interested in 3.1. but this \
is a small annoyance that i'd like to see fixed. thanks!
