Subject: KDE applications randomly crash on close/quit/exit
From: zcu2k001@sneakemail.com
X-KDE-Received: -65.95.254.70

Package:           kde
Version:           3.0.1 (using KDE 3.0.1 )
Severity:          crash
Installed from:    Compiled From Sources
Compiler:          g++ 2.95.3
OS:                Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Gentoo Linux 1.2

This didn't use to happen - it started happening about a week ago, and I have no idea \
what I changed to cause it to happen.

I get the following exact output when I exit any KDE application sometimes (not \
always):

...
(no debugging symbols found)...(no debugging symbols found)...
(no debugging symbols found)...(no debugging symbols found)...
(no debugging symbols found)...(no debugging symbols found)...
(no debugging symbols found)...0x40feaed9 in wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6
#0  0x40feaed9 in wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1  0x4106c900 in __check_rhosts_file () from /lib/libc.so.6
#2  0x40e99856 in waitpid () from /lib/libpthread.so.0
#3  0x4067035c in KCrash::defaultCrashHandler ()
   from /usr/kde/3/lib/libkdecore.so.4
#4  0x40e97664 in pthread_kill () from /lib/libpthread.so.0
#5  0x40f6c8f8 in sigaction () from /lib/libc.so.6
#6  0x0804cf1f in strcpy ()
#7  0x0804dd18 in strcpy ()
#8  0x0804e235 in strcpy ()
#9  0x0804f2df in strcpy ()
#10 0x40f5b3c1 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/libc.so.6

It's the same output regardles of which KDE application I quit - and it only happens \
for KDE applications, not GNOME or other apps. It happens all the time for \
konqueror, sometimes for kcmshell, etc.

I noticed that when I create a new user on my computer and launch KDE from that user, \
the apps never crash. So it must have something to do with the KDE config files in \
my home directory.

I'm using the Keramik GUI style, in case that's of any relevance. Let me know if you \
need any other details of my configuration.
