Well, there are two things in UserLinux:
- supporting enterprises deploying desktops with KDE or Gnome. I am sure
there is no problem with this, even if you prefer one of them. Gnome and
KDE are cooperating more and more through freedesktop and with the advances
of unified mime databases, unified menu systems and others, it is really no
problem. I assume Gnome documents its administration interface, just like
KDE does (http://www.kde.org/areas/sysadmin/)
- developing software with one of the toolkit or providing technical support
to a company doing that. Indeed, very few companies can handle the two, but
why would they have to ? When you do business, you have to specialise in
one area, else, you are IBM.
There are some companies specliased in web development, other in Qt
development, other in Gtk development, other in database development,
others in Zope development, other in linux administration.
It would indeed be a mistake to go to one of these companies for something
they are not specialised in. But it is wrong to assume that a company doing
linux support or services should have skills in all of these area. You just
pick-up the one that is suited to your needs. It seems that this was the
idea of UserLinux, providing a common base to allow specific service
offers.
So I don't buy your argument that a developer has to know both Gtk and Qt if
both of them are included as reference Gui toolkit in UserLinux.

Philippe Fremy
