You are probably not running the sound server. Go to the Computer meny
-> Desktop preferences -> General -> Check "Enable sound server startup"

Start a terminal and run:
	lspci
and send the output to this list. Somone will figure out what you have
for you ;)

The output from the command lsmod might also be useful.
