Forgive my ignorance. Who is doing what, where, and
what are they charging, and what are they charging *for*?

Also, what does "kde3-stable" mean? It's not SuSE
testing it, is it? Who vouches for the "stable"
claim? How widely and thoroughly was the package
tested?

(I hope the tone doesn't sound confrontational -- I just
want an idea of what I'd be letting myself in for, versus
waiting for KDE3.1 rpms to appear on SuSE.de.)

I used Ximian for about 8 months, and they
had a pay-or-free arrangement with their RedCarpet
updater. If you paid, you got access to full-speed
servers. If you didn't pay, then you could still
connect and download automatically, but the connection
seemed to be a 56k modem on a 33.6k line... with dust
on it.
