Yes, the default setup is to have one maildir resource (called "Local 
Folders").

Unless you migrated from a pre-Akonadi version at some point, which would have 
added a mixedmaildir resource for compatibility... ;-)

Ok. Maybe that was/is your problem indeed.
If the (maildir) resource tries to access the wrong path (with the stray 
"file:") at some point, it will fail to read the mails of course.
