I still can't believe your cluelessness of the KDE team, who is on it, and how 
it works.

But you're definitely not the first one to question whether constantly fixing 
packagekit, could possibly be less work than maintaining kupdateapplet.

If it actually works well, and you're planning to maintain it for the long 
haul, fix bugs, handle localization etc., there should be a good chance.

Certainly it would be great just to have it in the distro as an alternative.
