As far as I know this is intended behavior. If you don't specify an
initrd in the /etc/systemconfig/systemconfig.conf kernel section, the
default sc-initrd-* will be built. So maybe you want to try to add
a line like 
INITRD = filename
to the KERNEL section of the config file...
