Why not run a virtual machine for Slackware 12.2 (or other distros).   
This way, no reboot is needed, just fire up your virtual machine, and  
away you go (full screen if you need, or in a window).
The only reason I can think of is amount of RAM needed.... but RAM is  
quite cheap now days...
VirtualBox is free, and VMWare Player is free as in beer...
