Do you have the program "klipper" running?
If so then depending on how the setting
"Clipboard/selection Behavior" is you can either
Synchronize clipboard and selection or keep it separate.
That will toggle the the old/new way you are talking about.
Maybe they really have changed the way it works and it's not a klipper
thing,
I can't say, I'm only running version 3.5.3.
I always have klipper running so nothing have changed in years here -
I like it for having acess to the latest
200 selections I've made. I set it to popup at mouse position with
Alt+q shortcut - it's great :-)
Just a thought.
