At ALA this summer, I asked a rep at the Random House booth about ARC's.
I was told in no uncertain terms that they object to any library adding
an ARC to their collection.

thanks for Victoria's response here. I recently received a request about
ARCs and commented that there are several threads on this list (though
that certainly doesn't mean we can't revisit such a good topic!). 

I would be particularly interested in hearing from publishers and other
book industry people on this list who can comment on the legal issues
around using ARCs.
