There was a similar message about SOAP about a week ago. I don't understand
it because yesterday I downloaded Build 618 and did an 'install Tk' on Win98
using ppm, and it worked beautifully.

No errors, and the Tk 'widget' program works fine.

Remember: Tk has to be built against whatever perl version you are using.
Since you've upgraded perl, and you cannot seem to upgrade Tk..your scripts
won't work.

I suggest a clean install. i.e. uninstall ActiveState perl altogether and
try it again.

Subject: problem with Tk and 618 ----- problem with ppm

With Win98, I just upgraded to perl 5.6 build 618. I have Tk 800.014 from
before the upgrade.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
My 1st problem: Using Tk crashes perl. Even if I just:

	use Tk;

I get Bill's window, "This program has peformed an illegal operation and
will be shut down." Details:

PERL caused an invalid page fault in
	module EVENT.DLL at 015f:10004728.

My Tk scripts ran before the upgrade. Any suggestions?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------
My 2nd problem: Even before my upgrade, ppm wouldn't work. This is what it
does:

The startup, help, exit, set, and quit commands work normally.

The query command gives the normal list of installed packages that scrolls
off my DOS window.

The install Tk, search, and verify commands all give me this message:

HTTP POST failed: 501(Protocol scheme '' is not supported), in SOAP method
call. Content of response:
at C:/Perl/site/lib/PPM/SOAPClient.pm line 222

Any suggestions?

Thanks
