Summary: Linux and OProfile RTC drivers conflict

Initial Comment:
OProfile has support to collect data via a mechanism
that uses the RTC clock chip present in PCs. The Linux
kernel also has a driver for the RTC. For Linux kernels
configured with CONFIG_RTC=y OProfile will have a
conflict on Pentium 4 (or any other processor where the
RTC mechanism is used because performance monitoring
hardware is unsupported).

Would it be possible for OProfile to go through the
Linux RTC driver rather than duplicating the Linux RTC
driver's implementation in OProfile?
