It still depends on with which locale your DB was created!
Otherwise you see:

lc_collate-Values for database »postgres« do not match: old »en_US.UTF-8«, new 
»C.UTF-8«

if the --check step retruns this issue one needs to delete $HOME/.local/share/
akonadi/db_data and recreate the database with the correct locale
