I don't mean to sound condescending, but have you checked the batteries?
My Logitech wireless mice & keyboards have done really whacky and
inconsistent things over the years when the batteries have got low/old -
including working "normally" for a couple of hours after rebooting a
machine that had been up for 80+ days. I've hypothesised that a 10
minute break for a reboot is enough time for the chemical reaction to
release a tiny bit more charge to let the device stagger on for another
few hours. So if you've left the mouse alone long enough for the
screensaver to kick-in... With 12-15 month battery life expectancy, I
often can't remember the last time I had the AA's out/swapped to
re-charge.
