I had mail with the YaST partitionner devs (on an other subject) and I
learned there that YaST is logging all it's commands and uses parted
directly. You can see the result searching for /usr/sbin/parted in
/var/log/Yast2/
an example (all on one line):
y2log-7:2009-02-08 08:51:47 <1> linux(3303) [libstorage]
SystemCmd.cc(execute):85 SystemCmd Executing:"/usr/sbin/parted -s
'/dev/sda' unit cyl mkpart logical ext2 15929 60800"
So, eventually, you can find there error messages if any
