If you just want them to be able to read what you send, you can export to a 
PDF and send that. I find it's much better that way. MS Word documents can 
spread viruses, and some mail servers filter them out. Sending a PDF is safe, 
and the receiver sees exactly what you intend him to without any format 
conversion problems.

If the person you are sending too needs to be able to edit what you send, you 
can do one of two things:
1) Point him to OpenOffice.org to download a free a copy for himself, or give 
him a CD with the latest version on it if he doesn't have the bandwidth.

2) Save your document in a format he can read, such as MS Word, RTF, or Plain 
Text.
