The big reason M$ Word opens so fast is M$ hooks in to the OS almost at the
kernel level they knowing intimitely the windows code. most 3rd party apps
are using ms supplied api's that do not offer the same amount of
compatibility and speed.

has anyone ever noticed on upgrading win 95 to win 98? there is a small app
that optimizes application start. I thought that this applied to all apps.
But a quick check on TechNet revealed that only M$ apps such as Office is
optimized. So everyone else is SOL.
