I have the same problem -- I got glasses.

More than likely, the screen is set up with 8pt actually appearing as 
6pt (which is the size of the old -- "read the small print" junk).  
That sounds like something you need to configure with the desktop.

Well, first, does this occur with 8pt on other programs?  If it does, 
then it has nothing to do with OOo.  If it does not, then something's 
amiss with SuSE's implementation, I would suspect, as 12 pt and 8pt on 
my installation (Lycoris) is exactly the same size (visually) in each 
and every application.
