I think this thread brings up a very important issue: is OOo Basic capable
of being used to spread viruses and if they can, are any of the major
anti-virus programs set up to intercept them?

Does anybody know the answer to this?

George

The general principle is: since all Windows-based / VBScript-based / etc
viruses and worms are dependent on that environment being available, if
you're not using programs that are capable of executing VBScript, you're not
vulnerable to VBScript worms/viruses. If you're not running Windows, you're
not vulnerable to infection by those types of viruses. (I'm pretty sure,
don't quote me, that close to 99% of viruses out there are Windows
infectors.)

So just by using OpenOffice.org, not running MS Office-type programs
(including! Outlook), you avoid Klez, CodeRed, Melissa, etc.

By not running Windows you avoid almost all known viruses. (Not all, but the
vast majority. :)
