You can setup a transition threshold to watch for this. This is an
example I have for cisco supervisor switching. You might be able to set
both interfaces to not monitor but still collect values from them (if
you want to monitor utilization on them. The alternative to that is
monitoring the downstream interface). Then you might setup your
absoluteChange on the OID for the default gateway route. When that
changes from one IP to another you know the interface has changed.

         <threshold type="absoluteChange" ds-type="node" value="1.0"
             rearm="0.0" trigger="1" ds-label="Primary Supervisor"
triggeredUEI="uei.direcpath.com/threshold/node/cisco/redundancy/switchover"
             filterOperator="or" ds-name="cRFStatusPUnitId"/>
         <threshold type="absoluteChange" ds-type="node" value="-1.0"
             rearm="0.0" trigger="1" ds-label="Primary Supervisor"
triggeredUEI="uei.direcpath.com/threshold/node/cisco/redundancy/switchover"
             filterOperator="or" ds-name="cRFStatusPUnitId"/>

The OID for the default gateway should be ".1.3.6.1.2.1.4.21.1.7.0.0.0.0".
